The Right Underlay To Suit Your Needs

Carpet underlay is rated by thickness and density. Thickness is simply being measured in millimetres, the higher the number the thicker the underlay. Density is measured by its weight per cubic metre (KG/M3), a higher density underlay generally yielding a more resilient underlay with better insulating properties. The combination of thickness and density provides a good indication of how an underlay will perform. A light duty underlay such as 10mm/90kg may be the perfect choice in low traffic areas where budget is a top priority, while a thicker, higher density underlay like 12mm/130kg will provide a lasting luxurious underfoot feel in the highest traffic areas.
The thickness and density combine together to provide a variety of benefits including:
  • Comfort
  • Durability
  • Thermal Insulation
  • Acoustic Insulation
Each product includes the rating for each of these within the product information so you can evaluate what is important to you.
